What is the Matrix?

SPOILER ALERT!!!

The Matrix was a low-budget film with bad prspects before it was released in 1999. It went on to take in one of the highest box office revenues in film history. The Wachowski Brothers wanted to continue they success. But, were the second and third incarnations a hit or a flop? What did you think of Reloaded and Revolutions? Here are my theories and thoughts after having seen Reloaded and before seeing Revolutions.




Gattaca

Starring Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Jude Law, Gattaca tackles the high sci-fi concept of genetic manipulation in a future which potential for disease, defects and aptitudes can be fully determined right at birth. The subject of GM has been one of the key ethical debates since the latter part of the last century. Debated issues have included cloning of animals, and the consumption of GM foods. Will our society become like that of Gattaca?




Twenty-Eight Days Later...

Set in a post-apocalyptic London 28 Days Later follows the journey of a bicycle messenger, London's sole surviving member, as he wakes up from a coma after a traffic accident. He soon comes to realize that he is not alone... This thoughtful post-apocalyptic thriller is reviewed here.





Do you have a Minority Report?

Equilibrium

Set in the post-apocalyptic dystopian common in all Orwellian prophetic warnings, Equilibrium is an immensely enjoyable, reassuringly engaging and thought provokingly stimulating film about what happens when the government outlaws emotion.




Paycheck

Set in the not too distant future, Ben Affleck plays a character who has his memory wiped but then using 20 objects (and the help of Uma Thurman), has to rediscover his own past in order to save the future.




The Thirteenth Floor

"The Thirteenth Floor" examines the enticing and ominous possibility that the world we live in is not the real world. (Sound familiar?) On the thirteenth floor of a corporate tower, visionaries Douglas Hall (Craig Bierko) and Hannon Fuller (Armin Mueller-Stahl) have taken virtual reality technology to its apex by creating a living, breathing simulation of 1937 Los Angeles on a computer chip...
